Picks: Jose Ramirez vs. Lance Barthelemy, Virgil Ortiz vs. Tomas Duolme
Watch: Saturday, April 27 at 8pm ET.
How to watch: DAZN
Reasonsto watch:Thisis the most exciting fight card of the seven events listed in this week’s TV Picks article, even if it’s not a good one — On paper.
In fact, the reading of these two combined features is a bit odd. It’s not because of Ramirez and Ortiz, who are very competitive at junior welterweight and junior middleweight. But it was their opponents. Barthelemy and Duolme are good choices.
Boxing is always prone to surprises – see last week, when Dakota Linger defeated Kurt Scoby and Pierre Dibombe Heading into the tournament after defeating Bektemir Melikuziev, Sean McComb defeated Arnold Barboza (and was seriously beaten in the competition) Scorecard ).
However, if Ramirez and Ortiz get the wins they’re hoping for, will it reveal a lot of unknowns? This crash was designed to help headhunters shake off the rust.
Ramirez, the former 140-pound titleholder, has only had one fight a year since 2020. He lost a fight to Josh Taylor and came back with a win over Jose Pedraza in March 2022, knocking over Richard Commey in round 11. The 31-year-old from Central Valley is 28-1 (18 KOs).
Ramirez, who left Top Rank, signed with Golden Boy Promotions earlier this year. This was his first campaign under their banner. The show will be held at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California, where Ramirez has built a loyal following over the years.

Barthelemy, 38, a former heavyweight champion from Cuba, is years behind his prime. He hasn’t been very strong in recent years. Barthelemy defeated Gary Antuanne Russell in a six-round decision in July 2022, then won a majority decision against Omar Juarez at Comeback in May 2023. Barthelemy is 30-2-1 (15 KOs).
During that time, the undefeated Ortiz had two long layoffs (12 months and 17 months) and canceled fights due to rhabdomyolysis, muscle tissue damage attributed to long-term COVID-19 in some cases. He withdrew from a fight against Michael McKinson in March 2022, McKinson was banned again in August of that year, and then withdrew from a fight against Emmantas Stanionis in July 2023.
Ortiz, 26, of Dallas, is a welterweight fighter. Since then, he has moved up to the junior intermediate level to help his body. Ortiz knocked out Fredrick Lawson in 153 seconds during their fight last January. Ortiz is currently 20-0 with 20 strikeouts, but he hasn’t had the playing time to shake those issues.
So, he turned to Thomas Dulorme, who was thirty-four years old. Dulorme doesn’t have a record at 154 pounds, and Ortiz doesn’t have a great record or impressive results at 147 pounds in recent years. Three straight losses to Jamal James (UD12), Stanionis (UD12) and Jalen Butz Ennis (KO1) in 2020 and 2021. Dulorme’s last fight took place in July 2022, almost 21 months ago, when he defeated a 19-11 champion named Abraham Perala.
We’ll see what’s left of Durorme next week. We should not be surprised if the answer is “not much”.
The undercard consists of three games:
Oscar Duarte takes on Joseph Diaz Jr. in a lightweight fight looking to boost their performance.
Duarte, a 28-year-old from Chihuahua, Mexico, is almost five months removed from his knockout loss to Ryan Garcia. This ended Duarte’s 11-fight winning streak and improved his record to 26-2-1 (21 KOs). Diaz is a former junior featherweight titleholder who worked on the B team with losses to Devin Haney and William Zepeda. But what hurt him the most were two losses to players that have yet to happen: a split decision against Mercito Gesta in March 2023, and a split decision against Jesus Antonio Perez in February of this year year. Diaz, a 31-year-old from Southern California, offers a record of 33-5-1 (15 KOs).
Women’s unification champion Marlen Esparza retains her WBA, WBC and WBO titles in a rematch against Gabriela Alaniz.
Esparza is a 34-year-old Houston native who won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. He continues to improve since losing the only loss of his career to Seniesa Estrada in 2019. belt, and will take the WBA title in 2022 and the WBO title from Alaniz in 2023. The WBO later ordered a division. For Alaniz, most of the loss to Esparza was the only blemish on his record. The 27-year-old athlete from Buenos Aires has a record of 14-1 (6 KO).
In the televised opener, Raul Curiel faced Jorge Malone Jr. Malone, a 30-year-old from Southern California, has a record of 20-4-2 (7 KO).

Wednesday, April 24: Ramon Cardenas vs. Eduardo Ramirez (ProBoxTV.com, 8 p.m. ET)
(Note: BoxingScene.com by ProBox.)
The fight in Plant City, Florida, features junior featherweight fighters Cardenas and Ramirez.
Cardenas is 24-1 (13 KOs). The death came early in his career for the 28-year-old from San Antonio, in 2017 in his 13th professional fight. Since then, he has won 12 matches. Cardenas’ last win came in February, when he crushed Israel Rodriguez Picazo’s jaw with a sixth-round TKO.
Ramirez (known as Jesus Ramirez Rubio on BoxRec) has a record of 22-2-3 (16 KOs). The 28-year-old from Sonora, Mexico, lost to Nick Ball in the featherweight title in the first round of 2022 before fighting a designated opponent next May.
The undercard also features a junior middleweight bout between Marques Valle and Damian Sosa. Valle is 10-0 (seven KOs), while Sosa is 24-2 (12 KOs). Friday, April 26: Yoenis Tellez vs. Joseph Jackson (DAZN, 8 p.m. ET)
Tellez and Jackson are two junior middleweights – although Tellez is the favorite in this fight.

The sixth match kicked off the Terrence Crawford vs. Terrence Crawford. Errol Spence pay-per-view; Tellez beat Sergio Garcia in just three rounds. Tellez joins Canelo Alvarez’s camp to help the middleweight champion prepare to face Jermall Charlo. In December last year, Tellez scored a 10th round knockout over Livan Navarro, whom he had previously beaten. The 23-year-old currently has a record of 7-0 (six KOs).
Although Jackson has a 19-0 (15 KO) record, that doesn’t mean he’s moving forward. The 35-year-old North Carolina native spent most of his time fighting in the state, with a few brief trips to Pennsylvania. He’s not that strong – he’s been out once a year since 2020 – and he’s not going to stand up against any kind of power.
The show, which took place at the Caribbean Royal Hotel in Orlando, Florida, had many battles between potential candidates.
Friday, April 26: Daniel Ettore vs. Armond Richard (CombatSportsNow.com, 7 p.m. ET)

This takes the 27-year-old Liverpudlian’s record to 8-1 (5 KOs).
They were supposed to have a rematch, but O’Quinn had to pull out due to family issues. Leach has lost two matches, having been knocked out by Liam Davies in 2022 and Masood Abdulah last October. Leach is currently 18-3-1 (4 KO). The undercard includes a fight for the IBF women’s lightweight title between Beatriz Ferreira, 4-0 (2 KOs), and Yanina Del Carmen Rice Yanina del Carmen Lescano, 14-3 (4 KOs).

Tabiti, originally from Chicago but now living in Las Vegas, has a record of 20-2 (16 KOs). Wright, 37, is from Evanston, Illinois, north of Chicago. Like Tabiti, he was a former lightweight boxer who later moved up the heavyweight division. Wright’s biggest fights in the 200-pound division were wins over Rakhim Chakhkiev in 2015 and Beibut Shumenov in 2016.
