David Benavidez consented to move to illuminate heavyweight subsequent to giving on a confrontation with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Benavidez will battle Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15, on the undercard of Gervonta Davis-Honest Martin at Las Vegas’ MGM Great, in the wake of halting the beforehand undefeated Demetrius Andrade in November at 168 pounds.
A battle among Benavidez and Alvarez, the undisputed super middleweight champion who will guard his title against Jaime Munguia at Las Vegas’ T-Portable Field on Saturday night, is viewed as one of the most fundamental that could be made in any weight division.
Alvarez’s clear indifference toward battling him and the assumption that Edgar Berlanga will challenge him next has prompted Benavidez climbing in weight, where he could yet protect a worthwhile future date with the champ of the battle between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol that will be revised.
It is perceived that Benavidez will be allowed just a brief time after June 15 to settle on his best course of action – he is the required challenger to Alvarez’s WBC title – and furthermore that the injury endured by Beterbiev could prompt a sooner than-anticipated an open door to challenge for a title at 175 pounds.

“This was the perfect opportunity to climb since I did all that I could do at 168,” Benavidez said. “I’ve been there for quite a long time. The main thing I needed to accomplish was battling for the brought together world titles, and Canelo Alvarez is holding every one of them. He would rather not give me the battle; I’ve been obligatory for the beyond three years, I’ve done all that I could do to get that battle. I actually haven’t got it, so I won’t sit around idly for no one. I’m [going to] proceed to make my own path at 175, and that is precisely exact thing I’m doing.
“I want to become bound together boss at 175 and simply rule there, and perhaps go up to cruiserweight. I actually have a ton to develop – I’m 27 years of age – I’m actually doing a ton in the game, so I need to achieve the fantasies I set out for myself when I was a young child.
“This is a blessing from heaven for me. I’ve for a long time needed to battle on a card with Gervonta Davis, and now that we got it set up, this will be the greatest card of the year. I’m exceptionally energized. I got an extreme, extreme rival before me. He’s just had one misfortune, to Artur Beterbiev, so I have a challenging situation to deal with on June 15, yet I’m going out there – I feel solid, I feel perfect, and I will catch another title.
“Being the 100th battle [night] at the MGM Fantastic is a blessing from heaven. It could never have been any better. Gervonta Davis featuring; me, co-headliner. I’m extremely invigorated for this.”
At 37, Gvozdyk is 10 years Benavidez’s senior. He will battle for the fourth time since his stoppage rout by Beterbiev in October 2019 set off a time of idleness of over three years.
“I’m so eager to be here once more, to be able to battle for a title once more, against a top rival, so I’ll give a valiant effort to not leave you frustrated,” Gvozdyk said. “We will put on an incredible act on June 15.
“It feels perfect. This was my objective, when I returned – this sort of battle was [the] objective of my rebound. It makes a big difference to me – individuals will realize that Ukrainians are solid and valiant individuals.
“To be in the ring with him is a very extreme spot to be,” Gvozdyk said of Benavidez. “He’s making, consistently, persistent tension. He’s an excellent contender, an excellent puncher. I think of him as quite possibly of the best contender. It’s a major test.”
